Aging Wisely

A class in becoming a true elder and discovering our own wisdom.

by Patt Lind-Kyle

Aging Wisely will provide understanding, activities and guided brainwave meditations to explore the various aspects of the aging process.

Wise elders are needed in our society at this time of cultural conflict and uncertainty. In every culture elders have provided the guidance to the young and to leaders to maintain the values and spiritual understanding to keep a society in balance. The challenge of our society today is that we have no script to guide our aging process let alone gaining true inner wisdom.

In this class we will create our own guidelines to develop a relaxing, deepening and insightful life that will support ourselves and others in new and creative ways. During the four sessions we will explore each stage in our life pattern and discover the wisdom we each have. We will use the brainwave CDs I’ve created to enhance our brain/mind capability, learn to reduce the stresses of aging, gain a more open grateful heart and expand our spiritual awareness.

There will be four Tuesday morning sessions starting Tuesday September 4th from 9:30 to 11am, and continuing the 11th, 18th and 25th.  Please contact the church at 530 274-2463 to make reservations to attend.

Yes you CAN teach your brain new tricks!

Yes you CAN teach your brain new tricks!

Retraining Your Inner “Old Dog”: Yes, You Can Change Your Life…But First You Must-Literally-Change Your Mind.
Most of us believe that there are aspects of ourselves and the way we fit into the world that can’t be changed, whether we like it or not. But what if that’s not the case after all? Author Patt Lind-Kyle promises that you can change your life (and literally rewire your brain!) through a method that has been around for millennia: meditation.

If you’re like most people, you’re dissatisfied with some area of your life. Perhaps you’re stuck in a dead-end job or an unfulfilling relationship. Maybe you’re deep in debt from compulsive spending, or you abuse substances, or you habitually overeat. Or it could be that you just feel unhappy in general: anxious, stressed, depressed, or chronically angry. But no matter how fervently you vow to stop your unhealthy behaviors or change your attitude, you find yourself backsliding-eating another doughnut, sneaking another cigarette, or dwelling on the painful memories that make you miserable.

Maybe life has to be this way, you find yourself thinking. Maybe unhappiness is just a big part of the human condition. Maybe the best we can hope for is to distract ourselves from time to time and just try to endure. Sure it’s a bleak outlook, but isn’t it also a realistic one?

“Absolutely not,” asserts Patt Lind-Kyle, author of Heal Your Mind, Rewire Your Brain: Applying the Exciting New Science of Brain Synchrony for Creativity, Peace and Presence (Energy Psychology Press, 2009, ISBN: 1604150564) and mind training guide whose voice appears on the book’s companion CDs. “It is possible to change your life in any way you want to change it. But first you have to understand what’s at the root of your problems: your mind and the way it directs your brain to function-basically, where you place your attention.”

Heal Your Mind, Rewire Your Brain: Harnessing the Power of Neuroplasticity

It will be a highly experiential four-day workshop where you will be empowered to learn to manage stress and break the mental patterns that keep you trapped in habitual and unproductive attitudes, thoughts, and behaviors.

New research shows that the brain is amazingly adaptable, constantly rewiring itself in response to events. By learning to consciously access each of the four brainwave frequencies, you can free yourself from the self-destructive patterns that keep you from leading a successful and creative life.

In this workshop, Patt Lind-Kyle will guide you through exercises that will enable you to work in a constant state of flow.

You will learn:

  • How the brain becomes stuck in negative feedback loops and how it can change and evolve
  • To identify sources of stress and unhappiness
  • Meditation and mindfulness techniques that rewire the brain by focusing on and strengthening each of the four brainwaves.

You will return home with the tools you need to literally reprogram your neural networks for a life that is more peaceful, innovative, and positive.

Video: Finding Home Base (from the 2010 ISNR Conference)

In this video from her presentation at the 2010 International Society for Neurofeedback and Research Conference, Patt tells the story of how she got started with meditation and how she became inspired to share her experience of “finding home base” with her family, friends, clients and readers.

After Patt’s first 6-month meditation retreat, she asked herself “If I can experience this incredible, incredible state of happiness, and it can ride through me all the time – I don’t need to find it out there, it’s here, there’s no doubt it comes from here – how can I teach this to other people?”

She also talks about The Brain Mirror as an important feedback tool that she used to observe her own neuronal patterns during states of happiness and anxiety.
